A blog presenting the comic book project, Roscoe and Alice Find God.

Catholicism Strikes Again!

I find the timing of this breaking news pretty amazing, as it’s completely relevant to the events that take place within Roscoe and Alice Find God, only a day after we officially launched the blog! Reverend Kevin J. Gray of Sacred Heart/Sagrado Corazon Parish in Waterbury, CT stole over 1 million dollars to bankroll benders of fancy hotels, Armani suits and (18+) male escorts. Thanks, Reverend Gray, for making us relevant!

In seriousness, this is the kind of thing that spawns endless debates between religious aficionados about the merits of religion as an entity or necessary part of living. Obviously, everyone is left to their own devices to believe whatever they wish, but clearly even the leaders of the religious community don’t practice what they preach. By my count, Reverend Gray broke at least 3 of the 10 Commandments, never mind homosexual activity (God forbid).

Not only did the man steal from the Church; more importantly, from the parishioners who donated in good faith. Surely, his actions will be met with the typical response of “straying from God”, but let’s get real. The man is an asshole, God-fearing or not. Whether he stole from a Church, bank, or pick pocketing in the streets, it’s the community that ultimately suffers, particularly children that are already confused enough about what to believe or not to believe.

It’s hard to have faith in something that seems to be failing to support itself day in and day out. Religion was long the safe haven from the failings of the world, but more and more it’s simply the cause of them.

There is no popularity in reporting things that are good in the church.

The Bible clearly states that evil men were trying to destroy the church from within. Yes evil was present in the church even at it’s beginning. And, evil will be in the church until the great gathering of souls. At that harvest, the wheat shall be separated from the weeds. Or rather, the evil will be separated from the righteous.

It seems you have convinced another one. Bravo, Lucifer. You will have your day.
